How to use Pivot Table in Excel

What is a PivotTable?

Step by step PivotTable

Microsoft Excel's most important and simple tool is the PivotTable. This tool helps you to summarize your large data in Excel into a simple, representing, and manageable format.

For Example, you have data from different students who belong to a different course and also their records in subject wise marks format.

Now, if you want to view this data in a managed view, like if you want to view all BA and BCA students in a separate categorize format.
Some sort of this is managed by Filter as well but not in a representable view.

This will show such a kind of output which will be easily manageable, but not representable at all.

For such a manageable output we can use a PivotTable.

Steps:

1. Place your cursor anywhere in the data
2. Click on PivotTable in Table option of Insert Tab

6. You can even add new fields in your original data and then update them as well in your pivot table (like below).

7. Now, again go to PivotSheet and in Analyse (utility tab). Choose Refresh in Data option. Your Updated field will be visible in the fields of Task Pane.

8. Same as other fields, you can arrange them as per your requirement.

This is the simple process of applying a pivot table to your data.
